Joshua Chapter 15 Verses 1 – 12

• And so the huge land of Judah is defined and now the portion allotted to Caleb…

Joshua Chapter 15 Verses 13 – 16

• So Caleb did it! He drove them out…at 85! And notice what he does here…Not only does he himself believe God and practice intense faith in Him…he encourages others to do so as well…he makes leaders! And check out the boldness of his daughter…
• And I mentioned this last week but Caleb is an interesting picture, type of whom? The Holy Spirit! First, of the twelve spies that went in at the command of Moses to spy out the land, two came back of one accord. Joshua and Caleb! Joshua being a picture, a type of whom? You got it! Jesus!
• We see Caleb with extra-ordinary strength! Enough to conquer the giants in the land…and so let’s continue this thought…

Joshua Chapter 15 Verses 17 – 19

• Here we see Caleb giving a bride away! What is the ministry of the Holy Spirit? To prepare the bride of Christ, the church! Also we see that Caleb provided both the upper and lower springs. Springs are a picture of the work of the Spirit. John 7:37-39 says, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit…”

• Achsah wasn’t satisfied with only the lower springs…and check this out…she got what she asked for! Just like us…just as how we are to study and learn the Word and find out that there are two baptisms that deal with the Holy Spirit (and coincidentally, neither with water!! The water baptism is just a symbol, a type, a rite)! The first, 1 Corinthians 12:13. Turn to it, read it with me…For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

• This takes place when you become a believer…when you get saved the Holy Spirit immerses you into the body of Christ! But there’s a second…there are upper springs man that Caleb has if you just ask him! See what I’m saying…? Let the bride simply ask man! Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you!

• Every Christian is baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ but the second baptism, found in Acts 1 is the baptism by Jesus with the Holy Spirit! BOOM! Turn over to Acts 1…look at this!

• Finally, Caleb literally means, “dog” and what do we refer to, what do we call the Holy Spirit? The “Hound of Heaven” man because He tracks people down to let them know, continually, in the darkest of places…that they are loved by God!

• So don’t settle for the lower springs only…that’s good, no doubt, but there is power available to you! If only you would seek, ask and knock like that door has GOT to come down! What a cool picture and type we have there in the text!

Joshua Chapter 15 Verses 20 - 63

• Interesting there that they couldn’t take Jerusalem. The city on the hill…fortified and easy to defend…and it remains in the hands of the Jebusites until David takes it in 2 Samuel 5. And I see another type here…because Jerusalem is the city of the king…and the people of God could storm the land but they couldn’t do it all until the king himself came…just like this world…just like this life…Victory is ours to take just by trusting in His Word and believing Him…obeying Him…but soon, there will come a day when even the city of the king…will fall to the rightful King…until then…we wait and we watch…and that day approaches fast…so nevermind the outrageous odds and the illogical circumstances…the King is soon to come!
