Joshua Chapter 10 Verses 1 – 5

• An interesting detail here. Adoni-Zedek is the current king of Jerusalem at this time and his name literally means “Lord of Righteousness.” Isn’t that interesting because he’s not righteous! He’s actually the opposite of righteous and many commentators view him as somewhat of an Anti-Christ type.
• Parading about with the title of “King of Goodness” while occupying the Lord’s Promised Land. And to add to that we see here that he, (this picture of the Anti-Christ), stirs up many peoples and nations against…Joshua! Joshua of course being a type of the coming High Priest, Jesus!
• Notice their cowardice as well. Adoni-Zedek fears greatly after hearing of Joshua and then hearing of their peace with the Gibeonites and so what does he do? Attack Joshua? No! He attacks Gibeon! So often the ploy of the enemy as well as the roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, he targets the young, the injured and often times leaves the strong alone…the Bible says in the Book of James that the devil actually flees the strong as they resist him continually!
• (Cool nugget here…10 Kings at war with Joshua – possible parallel to the flesh at war with the spirit? Law and Grace?)

Joshua Chapter 10 Verses 6 – 7

• Now this is a Godly move on the part of Joshua and Israel. Why? Because not only is this a convenient opportunity for Joshua to turn his back on Gibeon and rid himself of his foolish vow but understand, the vow was for peace, not for protection. Here we see Joshua and the leaders of Israel over-delivering upon their commitment! So very honorable to the Lord and honoring of Him. I wonder if that is your heart…to deliver the bare minimum in accordance with your commitment, maybe to not even do that…or to truly over deliver…to the service of your Lord and fellow man?!
• Watch what God does in response to Joshua’s excellence, integrity and godly character…

Joshua Chapter 10 Verse 8

• In the simplest of observations…God speaks directly to Joshua. Is not that enough? Is not that enough of a reason to do more than what is required of you? That God would speak with you directly? One on one! That you’d have that closeness of relationship with the Lord of all grace, mercy, wisdom and creation?
• God’s response to one who would have the where-with-all…the eyes to even see this, the heart to even consider this, and the integrity and character to even do this…is personal and palpable…Joshua can reach out and touch this! God speaks audibly directly to him!
• Are you hearing directly from the Lord? Not just through the text during your times of study! But as you meet the needs of those who are in need around you. As you go beyond meeting their needs and arrive right at going to battle against the enemy for them…blessing them and bringing humility and worship! Do you even see it? If you see it, do you even care? You’ll know if you care or not by what you do! NOT how you feel…!!
• When you step towards God in a manner such as this…be sure you are giving one-hunnet (100%) and the promised result…James 4:8 > Seek me son, reach for me daughter…and I will touch YOU. Just like we see here…God speaks directly, personally, wonderfully, especially, particularly, exclusively, secretly…to Joshua.

Joshua Chapter 10 Verse 9

• I love that! He marched ALL NIGHT LONG! No, “I’m tired” from the Lord’s anointed! He’s after saving others! No care for himself…no mention of himself…other than to record that he went without bodily rest and because his will was stronger than his flesh…his calling was more powerful than his bodily needs, his urgency, his determination…his Godly character…He attacks in full strength…and that resolute willful approach, catches the enemy in a state of sudden! Suddenly! By surprise!!! I LOVE THAT!

Joshua Chapter 10 Verses 10 – 11

• Are you seeing this!? It’s like something wonderfully awesome and your wife is holding a camera and you ask, “Are you getting this!” BEYOND speaking directly, personally, intimately with Joshua…GOD FIGHTS WITH HIM! Awesome! And notice, God carries the yoke! Isn’t that cool! There is GOOD truth here. Real stuff being seen tonight in the scriptures. Are you awake? Are you getting this?! Because this COULD be you!? I pray for this!
• That I would seek Him, know Him, understand not just His Word and wisdom and theological science (working things out in my head until they make sense) but peering directly into the heart that was pierced to rescue me! Such that I not only obey but I serve Him and in that find the true heart of worship!   Manifested in my life by pressing harder than required, looking harder than required, delivering more than what is required! Nations more! Infinitely more because He is my infinite heart-fuel!
• And then knowing a personal, one-on-one, real intimacy with YHWH! Where He speaks and delivers comfort. “Do not fear.” Assurance, “I have delivered them into your hand.” And even fights the battle before me and I’m left to do what? Simply worship! While greater works, just like Jesus said in John 14:12, flow throughout my life!!!
• And that’s what we’ll see next time…as Joshua speaks to the Lord and the very sun stands still!!!
