Continuing our thought from last week that Jesus is superior to the angels and therefore, as we discussed, His testimony is superior, we’ll see this week some of that master expert level knowledge of the Old Testament…

Hebrews Chapter 1 Verse 5

• Not Michael. Not Lucifer. Not Gabriel. None of ‘em. I mean that’s the answer to the question posed…, “To which of the angels did He ever say?” Easy…none! The writer doesn’t even mention the fathers of the Old Testament or the prophets because God certainly didn’t exalt any of them…he goes right to the big hitters, (the heavenly hitters), the angels, and makes it clear. Jesus is higher. He is superior. He is distinguished above all of them. He is utterly preeminent! Jesus is something and someone entirely different…(I love what Psalm 50:21 says, “You thought that I was altogether like you?” And Isaiah 55:8-9 spells it out, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”)
• And I know I say this and mention this often but in our day and age this is so important to understand and know…that Jesus is unrivalled and exclusively greater. It is His testimony, His doctrine, Him alone that we ought to look to for all truth of all things. (Truth has a home and Jesus is HOME ALONE! HA) Why? Because He is highest rank! None higher…So walk down all of the mainline cults, they all get Jesus wrong…
• Islam teaches that Jesus is a prophet of Allah. Seventh-day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witness’ teach that Jesus is Michael, the Archangel. Mormonism teaches that Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer. Most other world religions regard Jesus as merely a good man or some type of seer, or don’t mention Him at all. But I zero in again these four; Islam, Seventh-day Adventists, JWs and Mormons because they all claim to have received their groups’ revelational doctrine from angels!
• Paul combated this centuries ago in his letter to the Galatians. Look at Galatians 1 verses 6 – 9. Let it all be thrown out, Paul says! And today I say the same. Because they are all inferior. Lacking. And in the conversation of absolute truth, inferior and lacking are descriptions of non-absolute-truth…and we have another word for non-truth, right? They are lies. Let them be accursed. Or in the Greek, anathema…thrown out! To no other ever is the answer to this most important first question and so no other will I place the entirety of my hope and trust…No other place will I lead my precious children! But to the One who actually has authority and ability to save!

Hebrews Chapter 1 Verses 6 – 8

• Notice, all the angels worship Him! Talk about superiority! All the angels? Yep! No wonder Lucifer hates Him so much! Because in His presence, even Lucifer’s fallen minions MUST worship Him! Just check out Mark 5 again! And I love this because the writer calls Jesus the “firstborn into the world.” The “prototokos.” Do you know what that means? What that is? The explanation is given in Colossians 1:18…, “He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence!”
• So cool. Adam gave rise to a race of grave dwellers. Jesus gave rise to a race of day walkers. It’s like a freaky vampire movie! Ha! But just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men…one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience, many will be made righteous!   Straight out of Romans 5. Firstborn baby! (Pardon the Christmas pun) Firstborn…of the day walkers! HA! The non-YOLO’s! The born-again believers, dead to sin, alive to God! Alive forever!
• He was and is the first. Not just the first in terms of chronology in that He was the first flesh to defeat the grave…but also first in headship, authority, preeminence and superiority! “Your throne, O God,” (this is God the Father talking to God the Son and notice God calls Jesus what? GOD! Only God can receive worship and we just saw that ALL of the angels worship Him!) “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever!” And You wield the scepter of righteousness. The key to righteousness for all men…See how it all comes together?

Hebrews Chapter 1 Verse 9

• Oh man! Huge hidden nugget of life there! Did you catch it! Colossal cornerstone of contentness! Whaaaaaat? “If you wanna be happy for the rest of YOUR LIFE…” Listen to this!! Read that passage again! It’s so simple. IF YOU JUST BELLLLIEEEEVE!   (In my best Josh Groban voice) Love righteousness, hate lawlessness. What does that mean?   Does that mean be ultra-religious! (New super-hero at the Christian Bookstore! ULTRA-RELIGIOUS MAN! Ain’t nobody gonna buy that!) NO! Get to know Jesus! Because truly to know Him, is to love Him. Because the closer you get man…the more you will be in awe of His greatness, His goodness, His grace and how much He cares for you…and therefore know Jesus…and even in doing that…you will naturally hate lawlessness man…
• So what’s the key? KNOW JESUS! How? How do you get to know anyone? SPEND TIME WITH HIM! Read the Word. Study the Word. Pray. Be at church around His body as much as possible! Watch edifying movies! Have edifying conversations! Edify…such a churchy word! Think “edit-on-the-fly!” Constantly hang with Jesus man and edit your life to worship! So cool! And the payoff!? Here it is!
• “If you want to be happy for the rest of YOUR LIFE…!” Stupid song but that’s the idea…here it is…”Therefore, God has annoineted you…soothed you…with the oil of GLADNESS!” BOOM! The secret to a content, satisfying, cheerful, delighted, ecstatic, elated, joyful, peaceful and blessed life? More stuff! NO! Fame and popularity! NO! Money, cash, cars, diamond rings, gold chains, and champagne? NOOOO! KNOW JESUS! LOVE IT! TRUTH BOMB…..BABOOOOOOOM!
• Now…try it. HA! That whole schpeal…means nothing to you if you don’t try it, now does it?! Try it man! You will find God’s Word to be unequivocally true…

Hebrews Chapter 1 Verses 10 – 14

• Again, this is the Father speaking to the Son. The express image of God’s own person…His very character revealed to mankind, via mankind…Jesus is the single avenue, the conduit, the one way God relates to man. The one and only Way, the one and only Truth and the one and only Key to life.
• Through Jesus the foundations of the earth were poured. Through Him all things were made that were made...and look…if He is the Author, then He is also the Answer…Think about that app developer that we talked about a few weeks back (in second service). How much could you do with an app if you had the developer there with you? The same goes for this life! And even the life to come.
• He has sent His witnesses here today…His fathers, His body, His angels even to minister maybe to you…to come to your senses…and to give your whole life to Him and freely become one of those who will inherit salvation…because horrifyingly, not all will…why else would it say, “for those who will?” Simple…some will not…
• Don’t follow something inferior…if we’re talking truth and we describe something as inferior then we may as well call a spade a spade…it’s a lie. There is one Truth…and that Truth not only came to reveal Himself plainly but He gave His all for you passionately…so that in this life and the next, peace would be provided…would you respond to Him today?
