Habakkuk 2 vs 12-20

Habakkuk Chapter 2 Verse 12

  • This is such an important verse. The Bible, God’s Word pronounces woe upon those who build with bloodshed and establish by iniquity! What does that mean? Practically speaking…it is simply to do and to build and to work with self in the cross-hair target of your mind.
  • It all began in Genesis Chapter 11. An enemy of God by the name of Nimrod, “A mighty one on the earth,” and, “The mighty hunter before the Lord,” established a city and called it Babylon and there in Babylon it says in Genesis 11:4, the people said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens (we will reach god-status); let us make a name for ourselves…”

  • Why do you do what you do? Why do you work? Why do you minister? Why do you discuss and relate and plan and create? Is it to make a name for yourself…? Woe to you…because bloodshed will be your mortar and sin will be your bricks…Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” Why? Because if God builds it…He guards it…and man He is the Master Builder…I mean duh!? Could you have designed the rose petal, or the butterfly wing or the iris surrounding the pupil?
  • Man it’s hard for me to build mac-n-cheese! But how many times do I settle for mac-n-cheese soup in my life when God is wanting to build something so powerful and intricate and eternal that all of natural understanding and ability pales in comparison!
  • And so here’s how that looks installed. Do life unto the Lord. What you do today…what you build your day into…are those the fingerprints of Jesus or you? No little white lies. Lies beget lies. Live in truth! Core prayer living, to accomplish God’s will. How many times do we pray for God’s will and yet we think not that it is our free will that is the catalyst unto accomplishing God’s will…?
  • The bloodshed will be your family folks. The bloodshed will be you job, your career, your ministry, your spouse, your children…as you lie drunk in self…and build your days by iniquity. God says let that not be you! Build in righteousness and watch it stand and stand powerfully!

Habakkuk Chapter 2 Verse 13 - 14

  • I love this! We work all week for green pieces of paper that a global society honors because it trusts that labor is behind it…the day that paper money stops being subconsciously/consciously equated to motivated labor, it will be worthless! Because paper can’t feed folks…And yet that’s what we work for!? NO! We work for the glory of GOD! That the name of God would be lifted high in our lives! That’s why we work!
  • Providing a stable home. Consistent with very little day to day fiscal change and provision for my family. That paves the way for a life inspected by many unto the glory of God. Walking in integrity and discipline and diligence…doing every moment of the day in excellency and strength of character, that paves the way for a person to be inspected by many…unto the glory of God! It is not of God that we would labor to feed the fire…and what feeds fire? Wood…and what is paper? Wood potato chips! HA! Thinly cut wood…
  • We don’t work for self or for paper and if you do, WOE! You weary yourself in vain because the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, just as the waters cover the sea…if you have eyes to see and ears to hear…a heart that seeks God!
  • The corporate cosmos, the order of work for money and usury and immense gain of the few is not of the Lord of hosts. The greater shall serve the lesser is God’s way. Not socialism or capitalism and such like. Not rewarding those who will not work! Corporate service…not corporate ladders! Thus the church is to be…filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord and ferocious against building with bloodshed and established iniquity! Ah but the love of many has grown cold and the Bible says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge…

Habakkuk Chapter 2 Verses 15 – 16

  • The cup of the Lord’s right hand…Psalm 75:8 says, “For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, And the wine is red; It is fully mixed, and He pours it out; Surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth drain and drink down.” This is interesting because at the right hand of the Fathersits the Son…and the cup speaks of His blood as Jesus took the cup, blessed it saying, “This is My blood, shed for the sins of the world…”

  • But Hebrews 10:29 says, “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace.”
  • You see through Jesus, God has provided us a cup of pure wine, a portion called the New Covenant by which we can be forgiven of our sins and alive unto God…in relationship with Him…but if it is rejected…then that same cup, by implication becomes the sole reason that we perish.
  • God’s against sin. Psalm 7:11 says, “God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day!” And that cup that sits at the right hand of the Father is filled with the blood of the New Covenant…the precious and perfect atoning blood of Jesus that He Himself gave for yours and my sin…but know this…that blood fully embodies the whole of God’s fury…It reveals the full payment, the full cost of sin and therefore you gotta know this…the Passion of the Christ is indeed the revelation of the fury of a just and holy God!

  • Jesus alone is righteous. Jesus alone is good. He alone is worthy and He alone was and is able to satisfy the justice required upon men…to take God’s fury and to give forgiveness…Jesus said in Matthew 20:22, “Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” No way…! All we have in us are the dregs…the yeast residue…sin stuck to us…but Jesus took that cup, gave thanks, blessed it and gave it to them saying, “Drink it, all of you.” Matthew 26:27.
  • Here’s the point…the choice is yours. The cup of the Lord’s right hand, His Son, His Word will be for you or…entirely against you. He doesn’t change. His will is that you would be made well! (Is 51:17) This one is entirely up to you…what have you chosen? What will you choose?

Habakkuk Chapter 2 Verses 17 – 20

  • God has pronounced “woe,” darkness, decay, degradation, dissatisfaction…depression on the greedy man, the violent man, the drunk man, and the idolater. And idol is anything, something that takes priority over doing what is right. Pens, money, cars, toys, video games, sex, greed, violence, drugs…it can be anything…it just has to take the position of priority in your life. And you can tell your priorities in three ways…because it is not what you think…
  • Time, thought equity and discipline…what takes up your time, what permeates your thinking and what are you faithful to…“woe.” Darkness, decay, degradation, dissatisfaction…depression if the things of this world have become the cup of your portion…
  • In it there is no breath at allbut the Lord is alive, in His holy temple…the Person of Jesus Christ, the Person of the Holy Spirit…shut down your mouths…all your excuses, concerns, reasons for delay and decay…Let all the earth keep silence before Himin other words…listen, listen to God…who loves you so…he will guide you into life and life abundant.   Not just for you…stop thinking about you for a single solitary second…but for His great and worthy name…and for them…
