Genesis 3 vs 7-24

Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 7

  • Satan delivered on his promise, didn’t he? But look at how twisted it turns out to be. What’s the first thing they do? Work. And as they worked, their work product is extremely aggravating! A fig leaf is not silky smooth! It’s a rough, itchy, a ridiculous choice but here is what sin begins and brings in a life…cover ups…with rough, irritating, ridiculous choices!

Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 8 – 9

  • This word “hid” can also be translated “to withdraw – to forcibly be withdrawn” and man that is exactly what shame and regret as a result of sin will do, everytime. Sin likes to stay in the dark, actually, that’s always where it is…you and I just get pulled into it.
  • It is written here, “They withdrew themselves from the presence of the Lord God.” That’s so sick and sad at the same time. Your Father, your biggest fan and greatest advocate. Your most loving provider. Your perfect-filled-throughout champion! Thoughts towards you as vast as the number of sand granules on earth and EVERY one of those thoughts is of love and adoration…and look what sin does…but God in His love and adoration towards you, calls you back to Himself…, “Where are you?”
  • This call from God is not navigational but rather it is relationalAdam, where are you, son? You ever look at someone’s life, someone you care for, you’ve known for a long time, you look in their eyes and see cover up, you see hiding, you see fear…and you think, “Where are you!?” That’s this scene.

Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 10 – 11

  • First fear in man. (Adam made up a word right here…no fear before right now…) And so fear is born…Caused by what? Distrust, and betrayal of God…First attempt by God towards man to remove fear. “Who told you?” He already knewSon, confess what you’ve done…throw the weight of it all off of you…there’s almost nothing you can do to reverse or make right what happened yesterday…but the one thing you can do, you’ve got to do lest you never move on from yesterday, what you can do is do what is right today. Confess, repent, move on…in that order
  • The other alternative…makes excuses…the first excuse of man, coming…and the first verbal expression of flesh/sin toward God as Adam will put the blame on God…

Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 12 – 13

  • First confession in the Bible…honest confession…and check this out, she will suffer consequence and we don’t want that and so many times we run, we make excuses…not the woman…not here…and her consequence is coming, but watch how God takes care of the enemy first…THIS is what God does with confession. He wipes out the evil and then, because sin has consequence, delivers that to us…
  • No confession, all excuses, evil remains, consequences still come – and you do it again…that’s the trade-off that the mature will make though…for growth and deliverance from evil…
  • Now check this out…I missed this but Guzik points it out. God asks Adam a question, He asks Eve a question but He didn’t ask Satan any question…why? Because there was nothing to teach Satan…Is that you? Can you be taught, are you teachable? Is God quite silent with you? It’s not because you get itHA!

Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 14 – 15

  • This is the first mention of the Gospel in the Bible. The first mention of the coming Savior, Jesus Christ. As a woman, she has no seed…which speaks of the virgin birthand He shall bruise your headdeath blowand you shall bruise His heel…with a nail. This is known as the Proto Evangelium.
  • And I love the message God sends to us and to our enemy in the first part of this proclaimed consequence curse on Satan. He says, “You shall eat dust,” which implies total shameful fearful exhaustive thorough and absolute defeat of Satan. Isaiah 65:25 says, “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like an ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, says the Lord.” Micah 7:16-17 says, “The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might, they shall put their hand over their mouth, their ears shall be deaf, they shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall crawl from their holes like snakes of the earth. They shall be afraid of the Lord our God and shall fear because of You!” The Gospel utterly disarms the power of sin!!! Sin, death, loss, regret, deception, weakness and evil lick dust because of what God did for us…

Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 16

  • This is a tough tough verse. One that you don’t typically want to read at a wedding…HA! Why? Because, as part of the fall, as part of sin in the bloodstream, the fallen nature of the woman will not be to have the utmost respect for the man, but rather deep down, to somewhere in there believe that you could do it better…and man this is the genesis of many marital issues…the woman, fully equipped and equal in every way…will want to lead but the order God has put in place that the husband is to be respected…will be the wife’s biggest trial…

Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 17 – 19

  • Upon Adam, the curse upon all creation, the curse of death is pronounced, just as God warned…The curse of laborious life…before, work was joy…

Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 20

  • This is a most interesting verse. Adam’s first act of faith…Eve was a mother of nothing at this time…but notice, and I’ve totally missed this in the past, before sin, Eve’s name was Woman. It’s so interesting and I see this so clearly…a name, a personal name, a personal identifier of uniqueness…before sin…wasn’t needed. But now pride has entered and a name is, in my opinion, demanded. Just like we demand recognition and position and courtesy and service…Did Jesus?

Genesis Chapter 3 Verse 21

  • The first death…but notice, after being convicted by God as He sought them out…after confession, after consequence is pronounced, now God comforts and providesgive Me those horrid fig leaves and try these tunics onsoft and warm…Many folks never know the comfort and provision of God…Why? But God, it’s not MY fault! Or I’m just going to hide…
  • And you know what, there are two types of Christians out there…fig leavers and tunicers…those that do it themselves, seek to clothe themselves with some sort of front of piety, and there are those that clothe themselves with a garment that was purchased by the life of another…one will be rough and rather self focused – blinded to who and how they really are…and the other will be soft and rather Christ focused…everyone in this room tonight falls into one of those two categories…

Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 22 – 24

  • You gotta go Adam. Satan delivered what he promised and now, your perfect home, your perfect work, your perfect marriage, your perfect harmony with your environment – it’s all over…you’ve got to go…because now that death has entered your blood stream…if you take and eat of the Tree of Life, you’ll never be rid of sin…so off you go, until I provide a way for sin to be cleansed from your bloodstream…precisely what He did at the cross of Calvary…
